Began some designs for a Sterling Silver and Amber neckpiece today….this is a commission piece for a client’s special birthday. The client wears a lot of Autumn colours, so amber seemed like the perfect stone to use in the design
People went crazy for amber when Jurassic Park came out ( you remember the mosquito trapped inside the amber knob on John Hammond’s cane?).
There is renewed interest in this lovely fossilised mineral, especially as it has been confirmed by recent research that mosquitos really DID drink dinosaur blood!
The amber I have is Baltic Amber which I bought in the Jewish Market in Krakow...so many different shapes, sizes and colours....and all of it at least 44 million years old - amazing ! This amber is washed up on beaches around the the Baltic Sea and can be picked up while beach-combing.
